Amkhan's research interests lie in the fields of international economic law (particularly WTO and foreign investment), public international law, international commercial arbitration, comparative law, and the Arab civil and commercial laws. He has advised governments, international organisations, multinational companies and private clients on matters relating to international law, international trade law, international commercial arbitration and Middle Eastern law. He has given expert opinions to domestic and international tribunals including ICJ and ICC. He lectures and supervises postgraduate students in international economic law and international commercial arbitration at the University of Edinburgh. He is a member of several committees and international legal associations. As from May 2000, he will be on secondement to the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels, as head of legal affairs.
